Sapa – Where rice paddies happen

I originally planned to visit Sapa for only 3 days or so but ended up staying an extra 2 days at the last minute. Sapa is thé place to visit if you want the scenic rice paddies you see on postcards and when people are talking about rice paddies. It is fairly easy to wander around the town and visit the outer lying villages by yourself on foot or with a motorbike. You can find tons of Hmong people around the town selling little handicrafts and offering to guide you to their home village. Their English is suprisingly good, not...

Living like a Gibbon: The Gibbon experience in Huai Xai

The main and only reason why people stop by Huai Xai is to go on the Gibbon Experience. Gibbon experience is an eco-friendly adventure in the wilderness of Bokeo Nature Reserve. The experience basically consists of flying through a series of ziplines from canopy to canopy. The experience includes an overnight stay in an AWESOME treehouse, way up high in a tree. Depending on a which package you pick, you stay in the treehouse for 1 or 2 nights. Before I go on, I do have to tell you that this unique experience doesn’t come cheap. For 1 night it’s...

Threading into Laos – Vientiene & Vang Vieng

Vientiene The first stop in the unknown Laos was Vientiene. I had no idea what to expect from this “little” town. It wasn’t until I left Vientiene on the bus that I found out that Vientiene is actually the capital of Laos…. There wasn’t much to see in the city itself besides the cool sculpture park. For me one of the only things that were worth visiting. They had tons of weird, buddhistic, godly sculptures spread out over the area. It was a nice 1 hour stroll, in the scorching sun though…. It was also the first time to experience...

Cat cafe & trick art museum in Seoul – Must do!

Trick art museum For some reason, trick art museums haven’t really taken off in other countries, but in South-Korea, they seem to be pretty big. In fact, there are 2 of them (maybe even 3) in Seoul alone and I’m sure there was one on Jeju island too. Eventhough they house different artworks, the concept is pretty much the same so I only visited one of them in Seoul. As the name explains it, the museum consist of paintings and artworks where there is “some trick” to it. More than often this means that the 2-D paintings seem to have...

Seoul Heyri Art Village

It’s quite unusual that I spend a whole post talking about 1 place, but I just had too many pictures of the Heyri art village to add another topic to this. And to top things off, some of the galleries weren’t even open! Anyway, to start things off: Heyri art village is a little “village” a few kilometers outside of central Seoul. It looked like they took a piece of empty land and decided to make it an art village out of nowhere, good idea to me it seems. All the buildings have their own unique design and consist of...

Daegu & Jeonju

Daegu Daegu in itself doesn’t really have much to offer. The reason I decided to stop by here was only because I had some time to kill before meeting up with my friend in Jeonju. On top of it, I managed to get a couchsurfer to host me for a few days. Not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but for each country I visit, I try to stay with a local couchsurfer for a few days to get a grasp of every day life in their country. Since this was one of the last chances for me and she...

Travel back to Ancient Japan – Kyoto

While Tokyo is all about modern day consumerism and commercialisation, Kyoto is the place to be to go back to ancient times and discover the historical story behind the country. Kyoto used to be the country’s capital before Tokyo, meaning many of its important imperial buildings were located here and are pretty much still in tact for tourism. Including tons and I mean TONS of temples and shrines. Kiyomizu-dera According to sources: the story behind the love stone is that there are these 2 stones within a certain distance of eachother. You start at one stone and close you eyes...

City of Angels – Los Angeles

Spent only 6 days in Los Angeles but in reality I did so much that I actually might have to split this into 2 posts. Los Angeles wasn’t really on the planning either just like Colorado. Mainly wanted to visit LA to meet up with some old friends from online (again). And since I’m here, I might as well take a few days to check out the city itself and all that has to offer and boy did it have a lot to offer. Before arriving in LA, I thought it was just another big city but DAYUM LA is...

Machu Picchu (small change of plans)

As I mentioned in an earlier post about Machu Picchu, I said I’d do the Salkantay trek, a 5 day trekking to Machu Picchu. However, I made a last minute change to that plan. A few days before I was supposed to do the hiking, I met some people on Couchsurfing (yes again), they told me about their own itinerary and plan to go to Machu Picchu without the use of any travel agency or trekking. Which means cheaper! Considering the weather conditions (it was/is raining season) and the price of the hiking tour, I decided to cancel the tour...

Santiago – Valparaiso // Chile

When I was doing my research on Santiago and Chile in general, I had to really dig for stuff to do. Since I’m only visiting 10 days, I had to manage to find something to do. But in reality, the 10 days I stayed in Chile really flew by.Small warning, this might be a lengthy post, since I’m wrapping up 10 days worth of stuff. Santiago The first impression of Santiago was… not too exciting. The city itself looked quite run down and being the capital of Chile, I expected it to be more “flashy” and entertaining. But truth to...
